The Garden provides a space for local people to come together, escape the stresses of daily life, help to enhance the local environment, and increase biodiversity.

Owen Sheehy was thoroughly impressed by the students’ engagement and dedication he commented, “As a Project Manager with vast experience in the industry I was impressed with student engagement in general, their understanding of the task and completion of same. It was also great to see that while the class split was 50/50 male to female the girls seemed to excel in the practical with one group of girls completing the task in under the allocated time.”

Engaging in a hands-on activity, the students were given the unique opportunity to step into the shoes of construction planners. They were tasked with creating a detailed construction program for a new school, complete with a variety of tasks and realistic timelines.

Gregory Benson praised their remarkable teamwork stating, “I was very impressed with how the Year 10 students engaged with the presentation and tackled our activity, which asked them to produce a rather detail construction programme for a new school.”

He further added, “Many groups showed great teamwork skills and accurately ordered the construction tasks, understanding that tasks must overlap for the year-long programme to be achieved. It gave them insight into the huge number of tasks that must be managed throughout every construction project.”

During the Mock Interviews, students were assessed based on their eye contact, body language, and manners.

Each interview lasted approximately 10 minutes, after which students received personalised feedback on areas for improvement.

The Year 10 Mock Interviews proved to be a successful career intervention. Although some students found the experience challenging, it served as a catalyst for enhancing their interview skills and boosting their confidence.

Through this process, they gained a better understanding of the interview process and how to present themselves effectively.

Springwest Academy and Glenman Corporation collaborated to provide this valuable opportunity, preparing students for their future careers.

Jason Bryan, our Senior Site Manager for the Tottenham Mews Project, represented Glenman Corporation as a volunteer. This was a social value attribution for our Tottenham Mews project in Camden.

During the event, Jason Bryan and other volunteers shared their career journeys and information about their industry with students.
Each volunteer had five minutes to discuss their respective careers, inspiring those interested in pursuing similar paths.

Following the presentations, students had the opportunity to ask questions and seek further guidance from the volunteers.

Commenting on the event Jason stated, “Participating in the Careers Carousel event was a valuable experience for the students and me. It broadened their understanding of career paths, provided practical insights, and opened their eyes to future possibilities. To support the project, Glenman Construction purchased 18 flowers and donated 6 surplus flowers, along with approximately 80 litres of topsoil, to those who volunteered and actively manage the local allotments around the site.

Val Fenn, Chair of the TRA (Tenants and Residents Association) at Elmington Estate, expressed her satisfaction, stating, “I enjoyed participating in the event on Friday and am eagerly looking forward to witnessing the flowers bloom.”

The hanging baskets initiative, spearheaded by Glenman Construction, aims to enhance the aesthetics of the construction site and foster a sense of serenity and beauty in the surrounding environment.

Hanging flower baskets have the added benefit of improving air quality by acting as natural filters, reducing the presence of pollutants. The book reading event brought a wave of excitement and enthusiasm to the children at St Mary & All Saints C of E Primary School. Many of these children lacked opportunities for engagement and were eager to dive into the world of storytelling and literacy. The event was a great initiative that provided them with a unique platform for exploration and learning.

Teachers and attendees were delighted with the event, recognising the positive impact it had on the children. One teacher commented, “This is a great initiative as the children lacked opportunities for engagement. This will have a positive impact on the children, providing them with valuable benefits and nurturing their involvement in storytelling and literacy.”

By listening to Phil Clark’s book, ‘The Accelerated Adventure of Sebastien Swift,’ the children had the opportunity to not only be entertained but also to learn about the challenges faced by Seb, the book’s protagonist. Phil’s personal connection to Seb’s experiences made the story relatable and inspiring for the young audience. The children gained a deeper understanding of empathy and resilience as they witnessed Seb’s courage in confronting his heart defect.

“If my words inspire one original thought or idea, then I feel my writing is worthwhile,” shared Phil Clark, author, and Site Administrator from Glenman Construction. “It was a humbling and truly heart-warming experience to see the children react so positively to the book reading. Just like the characters in the book, I hope the children will learn that it doesn’t matter what holds you back, it only matters how hard you push forward.”

A total of 125 children from years 3 to 5 actively participated in this interactive session, as their creativity and imagination were unleashed. A workshop was held to encourage greater participation in the hoarding poster competition, which would take place in July. The event was also a fun and creative activity for everyone.

Twenty-one children aged 6 to 11 years attended, and they were all encouraged to use their drawing skills to create posters. The children were given a variety of materials to work with, including markers, crayons, and coloured pencils.

Local artist Edward Fatunla led the workshop. He helped the children make their own unique posters. Edward offered guidance and support, but he also encouraged them to experiment and express themselves freely.

Commenting on the event Edward stated, “It was packed and very successful. The children learned a lot in a small space of time.’’
The result was a variety of beautiful and creative posters, which will be displayed on the hoardings around the construction site.
Marilyn Moore, from Southwark council, commented, “The session was well attended and enjoyed by the children who were very excited on the day. The children were engaging and attentive throughout the workshop.”

In addition to being fun and creative, the art workshop also had other benefits. It helped to bring the community together as people came together to create something beautiful for their shared environment.

It also promoted the values of artistic expression as participants were encouraged to explore their creativity and share their unique visions.
